OVERVIEW
Our birds are grown only during the peak of the season when the weather in the Northeast allows the birds to live a healthy life outdoors. We grow four (4) separate batches of birds throughout the growing season. The birds are available fresh from our farm beginning in late-June, and again in late-July, early-Sept and early-October by pre-order only (in spring). All our birds are grown right here on the farm in Concord, MA and available only by ordering direct through us via our pre-order form. We do not ship and the birds must be picked up at our farm in Concord.
Our birds always have access to shelter, fresh clean water, healthy grains and lush pasture.
We grow many different breeds of birds which are available in varying quantities throughout the season. We are excited to continue trialing new breeds as we are continually seeking the best tastying and healthiest birds we can find.
PRODUCTION CYCLE
Once out on pasture our birds spend their days with continual access to growing pasture, sun, and fresh air. The open floored coops are moved through the pasture sometimes twice a day to guarantee a healthful and clean environment. The combination of natural light cycles, plentiful forage, excercise and organic grains ensures healthy tasty birds. Access to feeders and waterers are plentiful and located both inside and outside the coop(s). The birds enjoy ranging in the early morning and evening and usually return to the safety of the coop at night for protection and comfort. The coops are sorrounded by electrified fencing to provide additional protection from wandering dogs and predators. See the slideshow for pictures of the mobile coops and birds.
PROCESSING
We are state inspected and licensed to process our own birds here at the farm! Through considerable efforts we have pioneered the production and legal use of the Mobile Poultry Processing Unit. We process birds four to five times during the season and are always seeking new volunteers and customers who want to come out to the farm to see and feel what harvesting chickens is all about (plus we provide some tasty snacks and lunch!). E-mail us if you are interested in helping out!
WHAT WE FEED OUR BIRDS
The rich pastures provide anywere from 5-25% of the total nutritional needs of our birds. The rest of their diet is provided by a certified organic grain mixture of soybeans, corn, oats, vitamins, minerals, a mix of probiotics (lactobaccilus acidophilus) and grit (granite bits which aid digestion). We have worked hard to find the freshest and highest quality feed ration available in New England. For complete transparency we have included a scanned image (see below) of the feed label. No antibiotics, hormones, animal by-products or synthetics of any kind pass the beaks of our birds! Our feed is certified organic which means no GMO corn or soy!
