Loading pigs

This month we will be harvesting our beautiful pigs. It's a sad time on the farm because we really enjoy spending time with pigs- watching them play and grow into healthy vibrant beings. But, we always have to keep in mind that we have the pigs for a reason - and that their time here is limited. With that in mind, we wanted to share a short video of how the pigs are loaded into the trailer for the trip to the slaughterhouse. Some folks have asked how we get the pigs in the trailer, and our answer is always, we don't. Pigs are naturally curious creatures so we let their innate instincts take over. We also restrict their feed slightly for the morning - as a bit of added motivation!

All we do is back up the trailer, put a bit of feed inside and open the up trailer. They all want to take a look inside so we just let them take their time. They are curious and a bit nervous to see what's inside so they can be tentative at first. Again, we let them come and go as they please and when their are enough inside we close the door and drive away. It's easy. No screaming pigs, no shoving, no stress. We've provided the pigs with a very comfortable and enjoyable life while they have been with us, so the end should be no different. We hope you agree.
