Final Chicken Harvest!
by Pete on October 25th, 2011

The last of the 2011 meat birds were harvested on Saturday - yippee! Once again we had a swell crew of over twenty hard working volunteers! The weather finally cooperated and it was a beautiful cool Fall day. We processed about 375 chickens including 165 large capons and another 200 Freedom Rangers and Cornish Rocks....along with our first turkey! We are raising three heritage breed turkeys this season to test the waters. It was a big beautiful bird that we felt bad about dispatching...but with thanksgiving coming...the clock is ticking!

Thanks to all the volunteers we had this season. Over 100 folks came out to help with the hard work of harvesting our beautiful and tasty chickens. A few photos from the season are below. Unfortunately, we have gotten in the habit of not taking many photos during processing days. But if anyone out there who has volunteered has images to share please send them along. We'll post them!
