| Layer Breeds Get to know the chickens! We've put together a bit of information on the breeds in our flock. Breed | Photo | Gen Info | Origin | Egg Color | | Araucana | | The famous "Easter Egg Chicken" known for it's pastel colored eggs. A beautiful and gentle bird which gets it's name from the Indian tribe of Chile where they were first discovered. | Chile, South America | Blue | White Leghorn | | A very popular and productive layer. This is the breed used on many factory farms because it's a light-weight bird, lays large eggs, and eats little. We like it because it has a nice temperament, lays alot, and loves ranging on pasture! Plus, we love the floppy comb! | United States | White | White Rock | | A sturdy bird which lays well during the winter. We think they have very sweet personalities and are always calm. We enjoy having them in our flock. | United States | Brown | Barred Rock | | A popular bird from New England, dating back to the 1800's! A cross between a Dominque and a Black Java. We've found them to be quite sweet and curious birds. | United States | Brown | Golden Comet |
| An excellent brown egg layer which is quiet, friendly and inquistive. This a cross-breed with a Rhode-island red and another breed, which can vary. | United States | Brown | Black Sex Link | | This breed is a cross between a Rhode Island Red male and a Barred Rock female. They are called "sex-links" because they can easily be sexed at birth by their color. This is our first year with this breed and we quite enjoy them. They have a light green sheen to their black feathers and are sturdy layers. | United States | Brown |
