Forage-finished Rabbit

Overview

Jen has fully embraced her role as "rabbit herd-dress." She has developed a small vibrant herd of New Zealand White, Satin, and Californian breeding rabbits which are multiplying rapidly. Our rabbits are extremely spoiled and enjoy fresh alfalfa hay, a special "treat" blend of sunflower seeds and whole oats, as well as all-natural alfalfa-based nutrition pellets.

During spring/sumer, young, growing bunnies are moved to portable pens at five to six weeks of age and grown for another month or so before harvest to improve flavor. The meat quality is superior to any other meat rabbit on the market.

Breeding Stock and Pets

We have a growing herd of does and bucks at varying ages. If you are looking for quality breeding stock or just a bunny for a pet give us a call. We may have the perfect rabbit for you!

At this time we have four bucks: Stanton, Rocky, Silver Bullet, and Blackie and more than twenty does...too many to list by name, but they do have names!

Forage-Finished

In 2012, we finally put our growing rabbits on pasture. We attended a Polyface Farm Intensive Discovery Series with Joel Salatin at his farm in Virginia and got a first hand look at their pen designs and breeding stock. Seen at the photo to the left are the Polyface rabbits which Daniel Salatin has been line-breeding for the past twenty years with a goal of improving the genetics so the rabbits thrive on pasture.

We purchased a breeding trio from Polyface Farm and began breeding these rabbits with our own excellent stock to further improve the line. The rabbits did well on pasture their first season, though they do grow slower and take several extra weeks to reach harvest size. Forage-finished rabbits also tend to be leaner than our hutch-raised rabbits. Look for them to be available in the summer months!
